Mother Teresa the Preterist?
Having just returned from an event that celebrated the life of Mother Teresa that included many of her closest friends and relative’s, I came away with a reminder about our own lives and the way we should conduct ourselves in living for Kingdom purposes.
One of the speaker's at the conference was Father Frank Kolodiejchuk. In his controversial new book titled "Mother Teresa: Come be my Light", he published some private letters of the late Teresa that showed the world a totally different side of her. A side that seemed to reveal a life long stuggle with her faith. But on page 194 of Father Kolodiejchuk’s book there is a copy of Mother Teresa’s letter to Jesus that I can personally relate to and I think should be the prayer of all believer’s. She writes," I beg of you(Jesus) of only one thing. Please do not take the trouble to return soon. I am ready to wait for You for all eternity." And she signed it, "Your little one."
Although I believe Mother Teresa believed in the return of Jesus Christ one day, she never lived her life that way. That’s a tremendous lesson that preterist’s should apply to their own way of living. As one who believe’s in the Scripture as being fully completed, I do personally believe there is a total lack of respect and reverance of the cross in how we all conduct ourselves. If we can learn anything from Mother Teresa it is that if Jesus Christ and His cross is the center of our lives than we will live each day like there is no tomorrow no matter what our eschatological belief’s may be.
