The Curious Case of Mike Gugliemucci
Just who is Mike Gugliemucci? Mike was an assistant pastor of one of the largest churches in the world, Hillsongs Australia. He is the man with the oxygen tube in his nose and leading the worship in this video. Ironically, this song he wrote"Healer",would prove to be more prophetic than he could of ever imagined when he first wrote it.
Mike wrote this song during a time in which he was supposedly battling cancer for over two years to this point we see him singing this powerful worship song. The problem was, Mike never really had cancer at all. He had purposely deceived both his church and family into thinking he had this disease to cover a porn addiction.
What would drive a man to do such a deceitful and dishonest thing? The answer to that question basically is that we all have the capacity to be both good and evil at times because of the human struggle between the flesh and the spirit. The big, white elephant in the room is that we are all Mike Gugliemucci's in some way or another. Maybe not on this grand scale but nevertheless, his guilt is our guilt.
When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” Jh 8:7
Jesus' encounter with the women who had just committed adultery is the perfect response in any situation that requires us to judge our fellow brother and sister. No one is without sin in their lives. To be fully human we need to acknowledge that to be perfect requires the honesty for us to admit we are imperfect creatures.
We do not have the right to stone the Mike Gugliemucci's of this world because if you look close enough you'll see yourself in him. Pray for Mike. Our healer is his as well. True and honest healing begins when we can admit our faults and trust that we can overcome them through the power of a sacrificial commitment to love one another in spite of our own selves at times.Therein lies the curious case of all of us. In spite of our humanness, we are still perfect through the healing power of the love that has set us free in Christ Jesus.
Amen
