The Love of God?
I've come under fire for posting messages like the ones Bishop Spong talks about in his writings and video's. Yet, if you put aside ingrained doctrines that have taught you that we are not perfect creatures, I strongly believe this contradicts the Scripture that says God has called us good.
Gen 1:31 "Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day."
God is love and He is the very source of all life. All life includes just that, "ALL LIFE!" Every human being is born and given the instinct to love. When we make the wrong choices or decisions, and we will, on how we show that love, it still will never separates us from the love of God but from each other.
Life can be cruel and sadistic because of those wrong choices of the intellect absent of the heart and apart from our basic instinct to love. And still we must remember God calls what He created as "very good." Religion is simply the attempt of man to reconcile in his own intellect and reasoning, the things that just don't make sence concerning the human condition by applying divine sanction and punishment upon it.
Here's a quote of mine that puts all of this in perspective, "Love is ageless because God is eternal." Live for God today and tomorrow will only be brighter, or as God still calls it, "very good."
