The All-Mighty, Powerful, Majestic, Son of God:
Psa 25:14 The secret of the LORD [is] with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
Living a practical Christian life two-thousand year’s removed from the cross is something that has been on my heart for quite a while. Today, when we read passages such as Psalm twenty five and the fear of the Lord, how do we then apply such words of inspiration in our every day Christian walk? To fear God is to respect His awesome name and to revere it as an awesome and terrifying thing. How often do you see this happen in modern day Christianity? Is Jesus Christ simply our "super hero" or "best friend?"
The Lost Art of the Fear of the Lord;
Pro 9:10 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy [is]
understanding.
Is this the thing that is missing in modern day Christiandom, the fear of the Lord? Am I so bold as to proclaim my acceptance and cover myself in His grace and go about my daily routine as if I am invincible and bulletproof to the world and choices around me? We are often left with a false sense of security or true relationship wit God especially when we neglect such a great salvation because of our misconceived notions of a buddy Jesus, or super hero God that can kick Superman’s butt on His worst day. Does the modern watered down teachings of reconciliation of the world through the power of the cross give us carte blanche to remove the fear of the Lord from our vocabulary?
The fear of the Lord involves acting consistently with God’s true character etched in our mind and with His commands still written upon our hearts. It means we must forsake deception, and we must speak truthfully and produce Godly fruit that defines us as His own. It means that we must cease pursuing evil intentions and must pursue peace instead. The fear of the Lord not only involves doctrine, it implements it. The fear of the Lord will produce Godly fruit. It is truly a secret that is no longer hidden. I would encourage each of us to not hide or ignore the Godly fear that the American gospel has dishonored by trying to fill their church pews or booster their television ratings. Do not neglect the fear of the Lord any longer. Then you can truly and rightly say He is your best friend without the super hero costume or comic book series you are accustomed to every time you hear the gospel being preached and tasting to much like cotton candy.
